UK Network

The idea of establishing a UK Network of Human Rights Cities was developed at a workshop hosted by the Centre for Applied Human Rights (CAHR), University of York, and the YHRCN, in July 2025. Attendees included local government officials and elected representatives, NGOs, community groups and lived experience activists, and academics. All four UK nations were represented, as were a number of cities and towns that will form the foundation of a new network (notably York and Swansea, both Human Rights Cities, and Bridport, a Rights-Respecting Town). 

The Network will interact with and learn from other, related networks, such as the Human Rights Cities Network in Europe.
